I am a visual artist and dancer. Light and movement are guiding forces in my work. I draw, paint, and create hand-pulled prints, such as etchings and lithographs. My focus on the landscape often emphasizes water, and I play with different rhythms in making the marks that build the images. This is especially evident in the charcoal drawings of waterfalls in the Ithaca region. (www.KarenKucharski.com)
The ArcWater series, begun at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University with the permission of Frank Robinson, Director, combines water, figurative elements, and art settings to highlight their significance. I am developing new images in this series of Fallingwater, Frank L. Wright's architectural gem in Mill Run, PA, thanks to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. I have also devoted a website and project to initiate funds for earth-friendly organizations, and give a percentage of sales for such issues, notably to Shaleshock.org, to watchdog the hydrofracking gas drilling. I also create art of the Tango. I enjoy its movement, light, beautiful form, and metaphor. It is a language of attentiveness heralded by movement, which calls to my artistic sensibilities. My work expresses equality and partnership, creative request and response, and a sensitivity that I appreciate in the dance. I incorporate my art into stage environments to stretch spatial and arts-partner relationships. My Tango Art and dance art has shared the stage with musicians and dancers at Cornell University, and in performances with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra at ArtPark, in Lewiston, NY. www.TangoMyHeart.com
