My mixed media pieces are made of new material, reclaimed wood and mdf and are embellished with natural elements and polymer clay tiles. My work incorporates themes, icons and influences from growing up in San Antonio where several cultures converge. Summers were spent exploring the windswept monuments of the southwest, the National Parks, the Florida coast and Mexico. My work reflects this mixed heritage and is colorful and at times fanciful. Designs often suggest contemporary Mexican architecture or the influence of the ocean and beaches of Florida and the Caribbean.
Humble materials are chosen for their simple and uncomplicated qualities. I am drawn to the quirky and unpredictable shapes, colors and textures of recycled material, found objects and natural elements. They seem to find their way into most everything I create and often a design springs from a reaction to a single found element.
I am translating many of my designs into a collection of home accents and accessories including mirrors, frames, folding screens, magnets, containers, greeting cards and limited edition wall pieces. My work maybe seen in Ithaca at the Belle Melange Gallery.
