Building Community through Music Across the Ages

This month's CAP grantee spotlight is The Dryden Intergenerational Band and Chorus!

They provide a fun, free, and accessible music experience for people of all ages and musical abilities! Join them for the summer to practice and perform, while making friends across the ages.

The group was founded in 1996 by Jody Earle to provide music for the Dryden Bicentennial celebration. They were so well received that they've been making music ever since. Last season, they had performers from age 12 to 90 and represented 16 rural area communities!

When talking to members of the musical group, people most often express how incredibly happy being part of this group made them feel. Being able to participate in this was said to have helped immensely with people's depression and anxiety. Making music truly soothes the soul, especially when judgement isn't present; and that is what this organization does well. daibc.org

CAP's GAP Grant supports artistic programs open to the Tompkins County general public. Grants are made possible by New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.  Funds are available statewide to make exemplary arts programming available to geographically, ethnically, and racially diverse segments of the State's population.
